There’s something about flowers that speaks straight to the soul—especially when they reflect who you are, not just what’s “on trend.” At Kateri, a boutique wedding venue, we’ve seen the shift first-hand: couples are ditching cookie-cutter bouquets and boutonnières in favor of florals that feel natural, emotional, and utterly personal.
And honestly? We’re here for it.
If you’re planning a wedding in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley—whether you’re a Charlottesville wildly creative, a Staunton historically romantic, or a Harrisonburg wildflower—here’s what’s blooming in 2025.
For Her: Bridal Bouquets That Breathe
Forget stiff, perfect arrangements. The modern bride is going for movement, texture, and mood.
1. Wildflower-Inspired Whimsy
We’re talking Queen Anne’s lace, cosmos, and chamomile—flowers that look like they could’ve been picked from a sunlit field (like, say, the one in front of our venue). At Kateri, we’ve seen brides lean into what’s already growing here: soft meadow tones, dancing stems, and that breezy, just-gathered magic.
2. Gardenias Are Making a Comeback
Fragrant, creamy-white gardenias are showing up in modern bouquets again—either as the central bloom or woven in for scent and softness. Bonus: they pair beautifully with silk ribbons and vintage details.
3. Moody Monochromes
Instead of mixing every color under the sun, 2025 brides are layering shades of one hue—think blush to berry, or ivory to champagne. The effect? Chic, editorial, and incredibly photogenic against the Blue Ridge backdrop.
4. Statement Texture
From smoke bush to dried fern, pampas, and scabiosa pods, it’s not just about the petals anymore. Textures are stealing the show, and we love seeing how each bouquet tells a story—especially when it whispers of the land itself.
5. Small-Scale Drama
Mini bouquets (or even floral cuffs) are trending hard. They’re dainty, practical, and still full of impact—especially when paired with a bold lip or modern gown.
For Him: Boutonnières with Personality
Gone are the days of the lone rose and pearl pin. Grooms in 2025 are choosing pieces that feel masculine, romantic, and just a little wild.
1. Earthy + Asymmetrical
Think: dried grasses, mini succulents, lavender sprigs, and even a touch of rye—yes, our very own rye, currently growing in the fields here at Kateri, destined for a small-batch bourbon project. (Talk about full circle.)
2. Wrapped in Meaning
Florists are wrapping stems in silk ribbon or natural twine, giving each boutonnière a rustic, thoughtful feel. No plastic, no fuss—just beauty and intention.
3. Wild & Local
Some of our favorite boutonnieres have featured local finds: Queen Anne’s lace, thistle, even mint or rosemary from a family garden. They’re unique, fragrant, and oh-so-personal.
4. No Bloom, Just Vibe
We’ve had a few grooms go boutonnière-free altogether—and instead rock a dried floral pocket square, vintage pin, or custom lapel piece. It’s non-traditional, sure. But also very 2025.
Kateri’s Fields Are Speaking
One of the most beautiful parts of hosting your wedding here at Kateri? The land becomes part of your celebration. In spring and summer, our wildflower fields bloom with Queen Anne’s lace, rye (going to be made into Ragged Branch Bourbon!), and soft waving grasses—the same things you might find tucked into your bouquet or his boutonnière.
Florals don’t need to be flown in from halfway around the world. Some of the most breathtaking flowers are already growing in the Shenandoah soil.
